FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Ruya Creations bags.
Where and how are the bags made?
Ayla makes all of the bags by hand in her studio in Belleville, Ontario. Sails are cut by hand, washed, and sewn using an industrial-strength sewing machine with a walking foot — built for the weight and thickness of sailcloth.
Where do the sails come from?
Our sails are donated by local sailors across the Great Lakes region. Learn more about how the program works and how to participate on our From Sea to Shore page.
Are the bags waterproof?
They’re best described as weather resistant — great for light rain and everyday use, quick-drying, and fully washable. We don’t recommend submerging them. For full cleaning and care details, visit our Care Instructions page.
Are all the bags made from sails?
Yes — every Ruya Creations bag incorporates recycled sailcloth. No exceptions. It’s at the heart of everything we make.
Can I donate other materials, like signs or canvas?
We’re always open to interesting materials! If you have quality canvas, signage, or other durable textiles you think could work, get in touch. We offer a bag in exchange for donations — just like our sail program.
