Sail Bags

beach bag, duffel, zippered tote all made with high performance sail materials pictured on a wooden dockBags made from old sails are nothing new, and for good reason, old sails are made of materials that will last for a long time past the end of their useful life on a boat. We have an opportunity to give them a new life and a new purpose. Our style at Ruya Creations is unique because we are sailboat racers and to us nothing looks better than a carbon fiber sail cloth, it gives it a more high speed look that we love, and the colours lend themselves well to any bag. The details and wear and tear of the sail cloth will be visible, we try to stay true to the sail and don't feel that too much more is needed to make a good quality and stylish bag.

A bit about me!

Ayla and young daughter sitting on cabin top of sailboat, Ruya, beautiful sunny day on Lake OntarioMy name is Ayla, I’ve been a sailor my whole life, from little Optimast dinghies to 40 foot cruising sailboats. I have also always had a love for home sewing. When it came time for us to become boat owners, it was a natural progression for me to begin redoing the interior and exterior of the boat. In order to complete this monstrous task of sewing through layers and layers of heavy duty marine grade fabrics, I got an industrial machine and set to work at learning how to work these materials into strong, weather resistant, well made boat equipment. When I realized I had a lot of leftover material, I couldn't simply throw it out. I came up with a small backpack that I still use on a regular basis. It was made to fit a full set of dishes that we use for picnics or for pub night at the Sailing Club some of you may be familiar with. People liked the bag, I have made a lot more since then and I hope you like these creations as much as I do! That was our starting point and we aim to continue providing sailors with bags that they will love to use at the boat and everywhere else they need one.
